Classic margarita cocktail with salty rim on wooden table

Bethenny’s Classic Margarita Recipe

When I created this drink, it became so popular that I launched my Skinnygirl Ready-to-Drink Cocktail line with it. This is the recipe for the at-home version. It couldn’t be easier to make and it is less than 150 calories, making it the perfect skinny drink for your Cinco de Mayo festivities.

Ingredients:

- 2 ounces white (clear) tequila (100% agave)
– Small splash of triple sec or other orange/citrus liqueur
– Large splash of fresh lime juice or 4 lime wedges
– Splash of club soda, to lighten it (optional)
– Lime wheel for garnish

Directions:
Combine the tequila, triple sec, and lime juice in a rocks glass filled with ice. (If you’re using lime wedges, squeeze them into the glass.) Top it off with club soda, if you like, and stir to combine. Garnish with a lime wheel.

Juice it up!
It’s traditional to rim your glass by using a bit of lime juice and salt on a small plate. But if you want to add extra flair to your cocktail, change it up and get your juice straight from the fruit you’re using in the drink. For example, if you’re making a grapefruit margarita, simply cut a grapefruit in half, then slice the bottom off one side and place that on a plate. Then press the top of the glass into the fruit’s flesh until the rim is coated with juice. Then dip it in salt or sugar or whatever you like. This trick also works well with oranges, lemons and limes.
