How To Stay Focused When Working From Home

Having the option to work from home is becoming more and more common – especially when all you need to do your job is an internet connection. Even though working from home can sound like a dream, not having someone hold you accountable for your work or being surrounded by the distractions of your home can make it difficult to stay on your A-game.

If you’re thinking about working at home or haven’t figured out a system that works best for you, here are three tips that will help you stay focused, motivated, and productive:

Dress for success. There may not be a need to get into your best professional business gear when you’re working at home, but you should still take the time to put yourself together. As I’ve mentioned before, when you look good, you feel good, which leads to better performance. The simple act of getting dressed will help get you in the right mindset to get shiz done.

Have a designated workspace. Working from the comfort of your bed or couch may sound tempting, but you want to be careful not to get too comfortable because this can actually be a distraction. Instead, find a space at home that you can designate as your workspace to separate your work from your personal space. Even if you don’t have your own home office, you can have a small desk in the corner or use your dining table.

Plan ahead. When you don’t have a regular schedule, it’s extremely easy to get off-task. For a successful workday at home, you’ll need a plan to help you stay focused. Start the day by creating a list of things you need to do and use it to organize your day. This outline will provide you with the structure you need to accomplish all your goals.
