3 Reasons Why You Need To Take Your Lunch Break

Some days, it’s easy to get so caught up in your work that you end up skipping your lunch break. You might think you’re maximizing your productivity by doing this, but you may actually be doing more harm than good. Stepping away from work to take a proper lunch is important for the health of your mind and body. It may even make you a better worker. So the next time you’re thinking of working through your lunch, think about these three reasons why you need to take full advantage of your much deserved time away from work.

Eat. The first reason is obvious, but you need to eat. If you don’t fuel your body with nutrients, your mind and body won’t have the energy they need to function at their best. Working on an empty stomach will make you feel fatigued and unable to concentrate. Make sure you take time to eat so you have the energy to make it through the day.

Take a mental break. Stepping away from your desk for a mental break will prevent burnout and will actually increase your productivity. When you take a break and change your environment, you give your mind a chance to refresh and open up for creative thinking, which can help you perform better later.

Get active. Most of us spend way too much time sitting down at our desks. If you have a lot of time leftover after your lunch, take advantage of this time to get your body moving. This can be in the form of taking a walk or getting some quick errands done. Getting active midday won’t just improve your health, but it can also improve your mood at work.
