3 Yoga Moves for Hot Summer Legs
Shorts and skirts and swimsuits -- oh my! It's all you’re seeing right now in the stores, which means it's time to release your pale, wintery, tucked-away limbs and get them into shape for the the beach and summer nights out on the town.
Celebrity yoga trainer and Bethenny.com blogger Kristin McGee to the rescue! Not only will you feel sexy and confident, you’ll have strong legs to support all of your fun summer activities. Don't be afraid, it's time your legs should see the light.
1. Start with Eagle Pose
Standing at the front of your mat, bend your knees and cross your right thigh over your left thigh, high at the top of the thigh. If you can, double cross your right foot behind your left calf (otherwise leave it dangling or place the toes on the floor). Cross your left arm under your right arm and double cross at the wrists pressing the hands together. Scoop in your lower abs, sit deeper in to your left leg and fold your torso forward. Hold here 5 to 8 breaths. Squeeze your inner thighs tight and activate your buttocks. This pose is great for fighting cellulite and shaping your legs.
2. Move in to Warrior 3
From Eagle, kick your right leg behind you as your hinge your torso forward. Try and form one straight line from your head to your right heel. Activate your legs, contract your glute muscles, tighten your abs and hold here 5 to 8 breaths. You’ll tone the area in the back of your thighs and tighten your tush.
3. Step back in to Extended Side Angle
Take a long Warrior 2 stance, pressing your outer right foot in to the floor and bending your left knee deeply. Lean forward and place your left hand outside your left foot as you extend your right arm overhead 45 degrees. Firm up your thighs, scoop in your lower abs and hold for 5 to 8 breaths. Keep pressing your left knee open to the side so you use your external rotators and engage your quadriceps and hamstrings of both legs. This pose will sculpt your legs and entire body. Step your right foot forward to meet your left foot hang over your legs and roll up to stand. Repeat the entire sequence starting with the opposite leg.
