The Super Bowl is this Sunday. If you're entertaining, here are some useful tips to keep things simple:
1. Use pitchers of water instead of bottles to save on waste. Also make pitchers of a signature cocktail--try my Skinnygirl Sangria with frozen blueberries a raspberries (Patriots and Giants colors).
2. Dishes such as turkey chili, veggie chili or hearty soups made in a crock pot are great to last throughout the whole day. Serve with individual ramekins of toppings such as green onions, turkey bacon, sour cream, and low fat shredded Mexican cheese.
3. Choose dips that are good warm or cold. I make my spinach artichoke dip because it is delicious warm with whole grain tortilla chips, but is just as yummy when it is cool with raw veggies.
4. Pretzels are a good alternative to chips. Buy frozen pretzels or pretzel bites because they are good warm and stay soft when they cool down. Serve with assorted mustards.
5. Serve bottled beverages in a large galvanized bucket of ice and make sure that the opener is attached to the bucket. This eliminates the frenzied hunt for the opener that often occurs.
6. Use removable labels to personalize your guests' glasses. This leads to fewer wasted cocktails, is a greener option because it saves cups and minimizes clean up.
7. Make a healthy taco station using a basket of soft and crunchy whole wheat tortillas and a platter of different fillings: meat, cheese, salsa, lettuce, sour cream and more. Let your guests help themselves.
Have fun! Super Bowl Sunday is actually a great day to meet men, so don't drink too much and wear something casual but cute with stylish yet comfortable shoes--you never know who you might meet at these things.. I'm a cardigan and jeans girl. And NEVER drink and drive. Remember to alternate your cocktails with water, and if you don’t like water, make a mocktail of soda water and your favorite juice.
Enjoy!
