Q: I want the real story, the pain, the things nobody likes to talk about, but the real stuff that goes down during labor and after getting home.
A: I may be insane, but I loved being in the hospital for my c-section for 5 days after Bryn's birth. Jason and I knew nothing. It was like bringing an animal from the wild to live with us. The hospital was our own little cocoon where everything was protected, we were like baby knowledge sponges, and we were so nervous, excited and emotional. This was also a time where jason and I were so connected to each other and so grateful. It may be magical a second time for other reasons, but there is nothing like the first. This is one of the reasons that my gut told me that I wanted to do this with someone who experienced it for their first time as well. It was perfection.
Q: Can you tell us about a few of your most special moments with Bryn and Jason in the past 8 weeks?
A: It really is cliche but having a newborn baby girl is magical, and EVERYTHING means something. Every cute little outfit with cupcakes and cherries and lollipops and kitty cats makes us melt.
The moment you get your first smile or actual liquid tear is like the beginning of the world. They are so innocent,so pure and so perfect that you never want them to face the world. Everyone says, though, that it only gets better. I simply can't imagine that.
Q: Since Bryn was born, what have you learned or experienced that no one ever told you about becoming a mother?
A: I knew nothing from nothing. No one told me that breast feeding was a very difficult process, a massive commitment, and what it entailed. I had no preconceived notions about whether I'd do it, but when Bryn came, I wanted to be as connected to her as possible and I felt it was the healthiest way.
Q: How has Cookie taken to the new addition?
A: Cookie is a complicated canine but so protective and lovable. We worried about her being jealous of Bryn. Instead, she is overly protective and now has another person to guard. God help anyone who comes near her baby sister.
