#AskBethenny Question – My guy eats fattening stuff and never seems to gain weight. How can I avoid wrecking my diet with him?
Bethenny Answers – If it’s a question of him constantly wanting you to eat what he’s eating, then you need to call him on it. Otherwise, do what I refer to as “taste everything, eat nothing.” In other words, eat all your healthier foods as usual and then have just a little bit of a variety of the decadent stuff. No food is fattening in small quantities. Key word: small.

Hi Bethenny,
I have alot of weight to lose, that might be a understatement. LOL! Since i would like to lose 150lbs. I am 26, i have 3 kids(7 yrs, 4 yrs, and 1 year old), I have a husband that likes no good food. I have a very small income( 3 kids and im a stay at home mom), so it has been hard to get the food that is good for me since he wont eat it. I have made it happen for the kids. I did not want them to not like fruits and veggies. Anyways sorry for my rant. Just wondered if you think that your plan will work for me. I really dont want to waste money on something that is not going to work or is not for very large women. And what book would you suggest i start with since i see that you have several. Thanks so very much for your time!
From soon to be skinnygirl Alicia!
It took me years to finally get my husband to eat the healthier stuff. But I started small like whole grains ( you would be surprised how much more flavor they hold over the “white” stuff). Then I went to smart balance products if it is fattening like peanut butter, milk, oil, even the mayo. I don’t feel as guilty. It only took one tuna fish sandwich for him to like the mayo, one glass of milk & kashi dark chocolate chip cookies for him to realize fat free milk tastes the same as 1% or 2%. It took one PB&J to realize the peanut butter is great! Everyone has a different way of getting fruits and veggies in, slow and go with that process. Fruit smoothies are a great way for fruit just blend some orange juice with frozen fruits (I use mix of berries strawberries, blackberries, raspberries, then add pineapples maybe a fresh banana and if you like them super smooth just add some low fat yogurt! My husband can have one of those everyday if he had it his way! Veggies I started with a dip of some sort every one is different on what they like. I just started snacking on the mousse jello as dip with fresh apples so yummy only 60calories a piece. Just don’t give up Bethenny can teach us anything its healthy doesn’t have to be tasteless! Love you Bethenny and keep it up Soon to be Skinnygirl Alicia! Sorry for the long paragraph I hope it helps! I am finally proud of our eating habits and that is big for me!
I’m one of these guys. I’ve been naturally thin my entire life and have actually had a couple relationships wrecked by the fact that I could eat whatever I wanted and my girlfriend couldn’t. For the record, I never tried to make someone eat like me, but I understand that it must be hard to be around someone who can eat anything when you can’t.
To put perspective on this issue, I’m not a drinker, but many women I’ve dated find that going out for an evening of alcohol is a lot of fun. How did I deal with it? I simply didn’t date people who found that the center of an evening’s entertainment had to be centered around a cocktail or wine glass. My advise is if you gain weight by just looking at food that you avoid someone who can eat to their heart’s delight and not gain an ounce.
Bethenny, I have to add that I hate the photo that accompanies this article. It implies that the guy is a pig because he wants a hamburger and that the girl is disgusted with his behavior. Surely you agree that people who like to eat but not gain weight aren’t all demons, they just have a great metabolism.
I was in a situation similar to that. I used to just have a tiny bit of gravy on my meat, a small portion of potatoes and lots of veg. No dessert for me. I wasn’t on a diet, but I didn’t want my clothes to not fit properly.
Bethenny, I am going to buy your Yoga DVD!
I knew you did yoga, you have beautiful strong arms & legs!!
I didn’t know you had a DVD, so am excited to purchase & start.
You go Girl!!
I have been blessed to be married to someone who is very similiar to me in food and fitness. However after the last 3 years of having some serious intestinal issues, i have eliminated dairy and gluten in my life, and so my hubby has now also adapted his diet, and eats what i eat in the house. And he has lost some weight ! he didnt need to lose any weight, since we both work out, and are not process food or junk eaters, but its a testament to altering your diet , even in tiny ways, adjusting your portions and eating everything in moderation, wether you are skinny or overweight or obese, food does make a difference! thank you for all of your tips, and keep on keeping on !
